La Piscine

Fresh back from a European summer, Yu Mei introduces Resort 17 ‘La Piscine’. We meet Vi, Judy and Ch’lita, three ladies up to no good. The collection plays on the colours of summer, inspired by paintings from David Hockney and Yves Klein, public swimming pools and nudist beaches.

Featuring Ch'lita Collins, Lily Van Buskirk, Wiesje ten Berge

Based on a true story

Experiencing the world as art, ‘Based on a True Story’ perceives light as growth, setting out to appreciate its simplicity and the power it exerts. Musing the work of Don Brown and Matisse, the collection navigates the tension between the styles; statuesque vs. organic, articulating our own shifts of place, people and pursuits into a tapestry of colours and form – finding balance withYu Mei’s design ethos ‘Simplicity is complexity resolved’.

Fine China

Fine China takes Yu Mei to the far east, where under all its dense opulence, merchants hawk illicit leather luxuries.

In a modern world where traditional craftsmanship is so highly sought, Yu Mei brings this handbag trade full circle; drawing inspirations from the labyrinthine markets of the underground, taking hints of all that is luxury back to our locally sourced and handcrafted materials.

Never compromising construction; balancing Yu Mei’s design ethos of simplicity and complexity, this collection sees bags of unobtrusive beauty inspired by all that is obtrusive.

Fine China is a celebration of the gold-toothed bag ladies of the orient, who too, process an utmost devotion to the creation and presentation of understated luxury.

'Fractions' takes it back to the fundamentals, finding balance between simplicity and complexity to create bags of unobtrusive beauty.
Yu Mei bags are built from a base level of utility, motivated by the ideas and stories of people surrounding us. Our designs take on personality, allowing wearers to draw beauty out for themselves.
With a sharp focus on construction and quality, each locally sourced hide is cut with respect. Our straps are hand crafted by some of New Zealand’s premier belt makers, and every bag is stitched and assembled in house.
This collection is a tribute to relentless ambition and the bag ladies for whom complacency is never an option.
